Mediterranean Crossed residencies

As part of the festival, Art Explora and the Island Club are initiating a Crossed Residencies Programme, in collaboration with some 15 international residencies and cultural institutions around the Mediterranean basin. Supported by Creative Europe program, this project aims to support contemporary creation from a transdisciplinary perspective, and to create a solid, interdependent network of cultural partners throughout the region.

Programme of residencies

Artists from the various countries through which the Art Explora Festival passes over a 2-year period are selected by the various curators, grouped into trios, to take part in a month-long residency in one of the stopover cities on this cultural odyssey.

Each resident benefits from a working studio in the host residency, a living and production grant as well as professional support to bring their project to fruition, and is invited to take part in the Art Explora Festival programming.

Conceived as a platform for exchanges and narratives across borders, this programme directly supports contemporary creation and federates a vast community of artists, scientists and art professionals around crucial social, cultural and ecological issues linked to the Mediterranean.

ALL RESIDENCIES

The residency trios - France-Albania-Tunisia; Croatia-Italy-Malta; Morocco-Spain-Greece; Portugal-Turkey-Egypt; Algeria-Lebanon-Cyprus - provide support for some thirty artists from the various countries covered by the Art Explora Festival, selected by the curators associated with this project.

Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka

The Kamov Artist-in-Residence Program – Creators in Residence was founded in 2011 by the Department of Culture of the City of Rijeka with the aim of enhancing the cultural offer, fostering art, and supporting the non-institutional art scene. The program bears the name of the most renowned Rijeka writer Janko Polić Kamov (1886–1910). As Kamov’s style was characterized by an impressive artistic depth and avant-garde approach, which expanded the horizons of Croatian and global literature, the guiding principle of Rijeka's artist-in-residence program is the idea of questioning, provocation and progress. To date, the Kamov artist-in-residence program has welcomed over 500 artists, theorists and creators from Croatia and globally. It has established collaborations with numerous cultural organizations, institutions and individuals dedicated to pushing the boundaries of traditional media and practices. The program provides artists with a space for inspiration, research and experiment in a new environment, giving them time and support to conceptualize and develop their ideas and projects. In addition to writing and production residencies in the field of performing arts, the program specifically supports research, open-ended and post-studio residencies.
