crossover residencies in the mediterranean

As part of the festival, Art Explora and the Island Club are initiating a programme cross-residency project, in partnership with some 15 international residencies and cultural institutions around the Mediterranean basin. Supported by programme Europe Créative, this project aims to support contemporary creation from a transdisciplinary perspective, and to create a solid, interdependent network of cultural partners throughout the region.

Programme of residences

Artist-researchers from the countries covered by the Art Explora Festival over a 2-year period, selected by trios of curators, are invited to spend a few days criss-crossing the Mediterranean aboard the ship, followed by a one-month residency in one of the stopover towns on this cultural odyssey.

Each resident benefits from a workshop in the host residence, a living and production grant and professional support to bring his or her project to fruition, and is invited to take part in the programming of the Art Explora Festival.

Designed as a platform for exchanges and narratives across borders, this programme direct support for contemporary creation federates a vast community of artists, scientists and art professionals around crucial social, cultural and ecological issues linked to the Mediterranean.

ALL RESIDENCES

The residency trios France-Albania-Tunisia; Croatia-Italy-Malta; Morocco-Spain-Greece; Portugal-Turkey-Egypt; Algeria-Lebanon-Cyprus support some thirty artists, each for a two-year period. All come from the various countries covered by Festival Art Explora, and are selected by the curators associated with the project.

As part of their residency, artists, scientists, curators or researchers benefit from a workspace, resources and production tools made available to them to create, produce works of art, or carry out their research work, in an environment adapted to and conducive to the development of their project: large rooms, workshops providing materials, work tables and desks...

How long do Art Explora residencies last?

After a few days in residence on the museum ship between two ports of call, each resident stays for a month in one of the itinerant towns.

How can we keep track of our residents' work?

To discover their projects, follow Art Explora's social networks, as well as the logbook, soon to be online, tracing the various projects that make up the Art Explora Festival.
