IN THE EYES OF: ASTRIT ISMAILI - EP. 8
Discover Astrit Ismaili in this new episode of our "In The Eyes Of" series, and plunge into her world where performance and commitment meet to give voice to the forgotten.
A multidisciplinary artist from Kosovo based in Amsterdam, Astrit Ismaili explores societal issues and invisibilized narratives through a hybrid approach combining performance, music and choreography. Her artistic language is based on the transformation of bodies and spaces, questioning the boundaries of the possible and the representable.
Her current project, "The First Flower", is part of a reflection on the resilience of queer communities in the face of contemporary ecological and political challenges. Astrit Ismaili draws a parallel between the botanical world and the struggles of minorities, highlighting common strategies for survival and self-fulfillment. The flower, the central symbol of her work, becomes a metaphor for resistance, fulfillment and transformation.
During his residency in Marseille, he is deepening this research by drawing on stories of migration and marginalization, exploring how identities can take root in shifting spaces. Performance after performance, Astrit Ismaili constructs a universe in which the body becomes a constantly shifting territory, capable of defying norms and inventing new forms of coexistence.
Through his art, he invites us to rethink the way we inhabit the world and listen to those who inhabit it. Behind each performance, one question persists: how can we reinvent our relationships with others and our environment by cultivating the power of the margins?
"IN THE EYES OF” is a series of interviews with artists participating in the Art Explora Crossed residencies programme around the Mediterranean as part of the Art Explora Festival. This programme series of artistic residencies, initiated by Art Explora Foundation and The Island Club, invites artists from the Mediterranean basin to reside and create for a month in one of the itinerant cities. Supported by programme Europe Créative, this project aims to support contemporary creation from a transdisciplinary perspective, and to create a solid, interdependent network of cultural partners throughout the region.
