Bea Bonafini
Bea Bonafini was born in 1990, and lives and works between London and Barcelona. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses aspects of spirituality and mythology, psychic and physical transcendence, and the interconnection between beings. Her works evoke alternative worlds inspired by dreamlike visions and mythologies, while expanding the possibilities for interaction between painting, tapestry and sculpture.
During this residency, Bea Bonafini focused on the hybridity of identity and myth, generated by trans-Mediterranean migration and trade. She is studying how these dialogues produce a cross-fertilization induced by the geographical and cultural proximity of countries within the Mediterranean basin. Bea Bonafini is particularly interested in the cartography and photographic archives of underwater archaeological sites in the region. She also explores the role played by ceramics in the preservation and dissemination of myths and representations of mother goddesses and female deities, and in particular their relationship with ritual and trade through the ages.
Discover " In the Eyes Of: Bea Bonafini "the first in a series of interviews with artists in the Résidences Croisées program, featuring Bea and her residency project in Malta.
