Photographer Kairo Urovi is captured in a fleeting, enigmatic moment in the streets of Shkodër, Albania. Printed in large-scale, paneled vinyl, this photograph is displayed at the entrance of the Port of Durrës, inviting visitors into the image itself and into the festival through this shared, suspended moment. The work takes its name from an old Albanian folk tale about a boy who is raised alongside a dragon. Over time, the two develop a strong bond. However, as they grow older, the boy, perhaps unaware of his true destiny, embarks on a journey where the supernatural and human realms intertwine. A great backstory for the walk and the program awaiting the visitors at the festival.
Kairo Urovi is an Italo-Albanian photographer living and working in London, UK. His work revolves around the complexities of that statement. Of being born and raised in Italy, with a family originally from Shkoder (Albania). They have spent the last 3 years developing ‘Stray Dog’, a photographic series that documents and explores the intersections of his being seen as queer, transitioning and defining a sense of home. His work has been shown at Paris Photo, Autograph ABP, RichMix and Ph Museum Festival.
