The actions of theArt Explora volunteer community in 2021
The Art Explora volunteer community brings together people from all walks of life, all committed to bringing art and culture to all.
Through concrete actions such as artistic readings in hospitals and leisure centers, conversations with residents of nursing homes, and accompanying groups to museums, this community is committed to sharing the arts and culture.
It is important for Art Explora to show that, every day, tangible actions are taken to honor its ambition.
Today, the foundation has 1,200 volunteers throughout Europe.
Community development in the regions :
The community's ambition is to expand throughout France and then internationally .
This has already begun with the development of volunteer missions in Nouvelle Aquitaine and Provence-Alpes-Côte-D'azur.
The Allô Miró initiative is expanding there, and readings will soon be starting at the Charles Perrens psychiatric hospital in Bordeaux and the Timone pediatric hospital in Marseille, thanks to the installation of Short Story Distributors.
Two mobilization events have already been organized in the regions: in Bordeaux last July, with over 70 participants , and in Marseille in December, with 150 participants . The aim is to bring together an initial circle of volunteers and work with them to develop the Foundation's actions in these regions.
Volunteer missions :
Our flagship missions are recurrent and regular throughout the year.
The first,"Allô Miró", consists of conversations with EHPAD residents around a work of art. For around an hour, either face-to-face or by videoconference, a volunteer discusses a work of art of his or her choice, the aim being to create a human exchange based on art.
The next mission is to read from the Short Story Dispensers (SSD ).
Les Distributeurs d'Histoires Courtes are media for disseminating literature, and offer short texts printed on papyrus, free of charge. Our volunteers use these media to read to children aged 5 to 15 in hospitals and leisure centers.
Now in its first year, the "Un pied au Louvre " program aims to bring visitors to the Louvre who don't have easy access.
After two days' training at the Louvre, pairs of Foundation volunteers accompany groups to the museum. 25 volunteers take part in this mission, acting as the museum's intermediaries and offering a simple, accessible introduction to art through an adapted visit.
The aim of this mission is also to create a social link between volunteers with a passion for art and people less accustomed to visiting museums. For this initiative, Art Explora is partnering with MaMaMa, Mom'Pelleport, Les Apprentis d'Auteuil, La voix de l'enfant, SOS culture and Article 1 .
Once a year, 10 volunteers meet for the pre-selection jury of the European Art Explora x Académie des beaux-arts award. The prize is open to all European museums and art centers, whether public or private, to encourage their initiatives in reaching out to new audiences. Volunteers vote for projects during the pre-selection process, which precedes the final selection.
Other one-off missions also require the support of our volunteers.
This year, for example, our volunteers were called upon for the summer open days at our artist residences in Montmartre. Some thirty of them were mobilized over a weekend to welcome the public.
They were also able to help distribute olfactory works in the metro, created as part of the exhibition hors les murs at the Dubai World Expo.
Key figures
The Allô Miró mission already involves 25 participating nursing homes, with over 270 sessions carried out, 70 volunteers involved and 220 residents reached.
5 reading sessions took place at Trousseau Hospital in Paris, while 7 reading sessions were held at leisure centers in Seine Saint Denis.
Why sign up with Art Explora ?
- To become a volunteer at Art Explora is to join a real community with the aim of sharing and acting together for cultural democratization.
- The Foundation offers volunteer work that fits in with your schedule, without the need for a systematic long-term or regular commitment.
Our partnerships with schools and companies
This year, we have entered into partnerships with schools and companies that offer us their time and volunteers to carry out missions.
We are in partnership with ICART, a school for Cultural Mediation and the Art Market. Students take part in short training sessions every two weeks to prepare them for our missions.
Since the beginning of this collaboration, many students have come to the hospital to give bedside readings.
Maison du Voyage dedicated a day of solidarity to us in November, with employees taking part in a hospital mission and a face-to-face Allô Miró in Paris.
Finally, several Spaulding Ridge associates took part in a short story reading at a leisure center.
We hope to continue developing these collaborations this year. If these initiatives are of interest to your company or school, please contact us at benevoles@artexplora.org.
Our ambition for 2022
We have high ambitions for the coming year.
We'd like to organize more meetings, exchanges and sharing of best practices between volunteers in our community.
We'll be developing new missions with strong responsibilities from 2022 onwards, creating volunteer referent roles by mission and by region to develop our community.
We will also continue to expand our regional presence, particularly in Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand and Lille, where we will be developing the Foundation's flagship missions as well as new initiatives adapted to the local context.
