The Afrovibe dance workshop advocates the liberating and unifying power of dance, understood and experienced as genuine therapy. Maryam Kaba offers an inclusive, gender-neutral dance practice open to all levels and ages, combining artistic creation, collective physical activity and letting go. Her teaching is designed to enhance self-awareness, improving flexibility, coordination and balance, and working on musicality, rhythm and listening. It's through movement that we can free our bodies, combat stereotypes, do good for people and radiate positivity.

Afrovibe advocates multiculturalism. The public is invited to share the EveryBODY can vibe motto, an inclusive message that conveys the values of self-acceptance, respect and sharing. TO DANCE IS TO LIVE!

Maryam Kaba

Of Franco-Ivorian origin, Maryam Kaba is a dancer, choreographer and committed activist.

A former French GRS champion (1992 and 1994), in 2013 she founded the AFROVIBE® dance fitness concept, inspired by Afro-descendant dances. Maryam developed the concept first in Paris, then for four years in Brazil, and in 2017 took part in the Rio Carnival as principal dancer at the Vila Isabel Samba School.

Based in Marseille since 2017, Maryam works through her teaching in France and abroad to enhance women's bodies (without forgetting those of men), encouraging them through dance to deconstruct injunctions, transform, reappropriate their bodies and boost self-esteem.

Since 2019, she has been an active member of the Marseille-based party collective La famille Maraboutage, an artistic collective of committed, anti-racist, feminist DJs, performers and dancers close to the LGBTQI+ community. With them, she conceived and organized Afrovibe Solidarity, a public event combining dance with humanitarian action, to support the work of SOS MÉDITERRANÉE.

Maryam Kaba begins a residency at the BNM as associate artist in 2022-24.
