The Ocean Weekend is a weekend dedicated to the ocean climate emergency, organized in collaboration with UNOC, TBA21, LAS and UNESCO. Through panels of artists, researchers and scientists, open to the public, discussions will address issues related to sea-level rise, the aridity line, the climate emergency, blue education... A major Ocean Evening will be held on Saturday 20 at Ocean Space in collaboration with TBA21 and LAS Art Foundation, featuring concerts, performances and screenings.

Saturday April 20: Ocean Weekend and Mediterranean Carte Blanche

Georg Umgiesser (director of research at the National Research Council in Venice), Paolo Comandini (PhD student), Sonia Levy (artist), Markus Reymann (co-director of TBA-21), mediated by Pietro Consolandi (artist and curator).

16:30 Voices: 30-minute talk by an inspiring personality  

Speaker : Latai Taumoepeau

Latai Taumoepeau (body-centered performance and punake artist best known for her work on climate change in the oceanic context), currently exhibited at ‘Re-Stor(y)ing Oceania’ at Ocean Space.

5:00pm Conversation

Theme: Migration and the Mediterranean

Conversation between Ceren Erdem (co-founder and co-curator of Court Square Project Space in Long Island City, co-founder and co-editor of the journal/platform Interventions and independent curator, in charge of the Turkish stopover of the festival), Filipa Oliveira (independent curator, in charge of the Portuguese stopover of the festival) and Güneş Terkol (artist, invited at the 60th Venice Art Biennale).

Conversation between Elyse Tonna (curator and architect, co-curator of the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2024), Sofia Baldi Pighi (independent curator and Artistic Director of Malta Biennale 2024), Emma Mattei (Maltese arts and culture journalist and film programmer, curator of Malta Biennale 2024) and Dr Romina Delia (Internationalization Executive from Arts Council Malta and Commissioner of the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2024).

Immersive exhibition "Présentes

Created in exceptional collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, this exhibition offers a reflection on the role and representation of female figures in the Mediterranean world, through an educational and sensory experience based on digital audiovisual technologies. The exhibition is divided into two parts:

  • An immersive exhibition at the heart of the catamaran

Is access to the boat free?

Yes, the boat is freely accessible on site. However, you can pre-book your time online on our website.

Is there a specific dress code for visiting the museum boat?

For reasons of safety and preservation of the boat, high heels and stilettos may not be worn on the boat.

How do I get on board the museum boat?

The museum boat is open to all free of charge. To find out on which quay it will be moored, or to pre-book your slot, consult the page dedicated to your town.

Is the museum boat accessible to people with reduced mobility?

Appropriate facilities have been set up on the Festival site for the reception and access of people with reduced mobility. The boat is equipped with a 1m-wide ramp, accessible to people with reduced mobility, but may require the accompaniment of a third party due to its gradient of over 6%. Access to the aft deck and immersive exhibition is possible. However, the upper deck is not accessible. Please inform us in advance of any special accessibility requirements, so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
